Lessons Learnt

When the team worked on this project, we felt that the main difficulty lies in what we want to analyse/show rather than how to do it. This is because most of the methodology to produce the desired output has already been documented online which makes it easy to find and learn. Thus, we learn that a solid plan and scope is required to make the process of producing the project more efficient.

The process of obtaining satellite imagery showed us that it is difficult to obtain good satellite data. We learned that a method to mitigate this situation would be a method called “mosaic”. Another method we found from Google Maps would be to replace the cloud data with an imagery of another period. However, we learned that it will affect the results and accuracy of the change detection.

We also learn that despite using algorithms to help us, human intervention would still be required at the current stage to perform the tedious task of data cleaning.

Lastly, we learn that QGIS is indeed a powerful application that can help visualise mapping data. In addition it provides a huge variety of tools to be used. In relation to our theme chosen, it can give a clearer picture to policymakers of Singapore.
